Lead for Cerebrovascular Surgery at Barts Health NHS Trust

His sub-specialist expertise includes the treatment of brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), cavernous malformations, brain tumours, and skull base conditions (including anterior and lateral approaches). He also specialises in acoustic neuromas, meningiomas, facial pain (such as trigeminal neuralgia), hemifacial spasm, head injuries, and adult spinal surgery - covering back, neck and arm pain, as well as sciatica.

Mr Bal studied Medicine at the University of Manchester, intercalating at University College London in Medical Physics where he achieved First Class Honours. He completed his neurosurgical training in North London, followed by dedicated fellowship training in Skull Base Surgery across Barts and Queen’s Hospitals, and a Cerebrovascular Fellowship at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge - one of the UK’s highest-volume cerebrovascular centres.
